This site has evolved out of a yahoo group centered around Jodhi May's career. We found very quickly that the allotted space available for such an account was not enough. In less than a year (May 2004 is our one year anniversary), the owner of that group and I were taking selected materials out of the group's space, opting for more recent materials. The criteria for such decisions was not rigid; we simply chose based in relation to all the material. Our acquisition policy seems to encompass anything relating to Ms. May's career: articles, film memorabilia, photographs, production notifications, scripts, even fan tributes, such as ours. We do have a somewhat inflexible stance that what we contribute in terms of this site will make every effort to remain professional in our admiration.
Our acquisition is to a great extent indebted to Ms. May's own busy working schedule. She displays a work ethic that seems rare in her profession. We came to realize that information on Jodhi May's work is so scattered and very rarely archived that we wanted to offer everything we have to any curious person. A simple "Jodhi May" search on google does not bring the return that one might expect. Ms. May is famously reticent with the press. To our knowledge, she has only done one video interview for any of her films. So, we find more print press interviews for her work, as you will see reflected here. We have not been able to confirm sources on several articles, and we welcome any knowledge regarding the sources of those particular few. (See below for email contact.)
This amazing feat of material pooling is very much a product of the members of that yahoo group, especially its owner.
And, I am grateful for the members who initially made suggestions that we develop a site. I think our weeding of the materials was also a little frustrating for them. We hated to do it, really. I would never have committed to learning all this technology from scratch had the members not been so persistent, and grateful, for what we were offering.
It has been for me an extremely gratifying time. I have learned Dreamweaver MX 2004, as well as Adobe's Photoshop and Illustrator (well, I'm still learning this one) for this endeavor. At least enough to present something that I can be proud of for a first attempt. Of course, I have elements I want to add later. For now, this site is nice enough. Before any creative issues I might take with this site, I try to remember that it is the information, the materials, that are most important to our visitors. And, I think we offer a comprehensive collection here.
The "Forum" stands to be an important element of the site as well. Like at the yahoo group, we want to (re-)create member participation in this area. We strongly believe in the free exchange of information and ideas, and we welcome discussion. We also have plans to incorporate a "Chat" element so that we might host artists and film professionals for discussions. It seems that the yahoo group owner and I have a somewhat academic attitude when it comes to our hobbies because we are very excited by the idea of chatting with playwrights, actors and producers. I must add here that this element is not strictly Jodhi May related. We are simply interested in the profession, in a very well-rounded way. We'll see what happens.
So, welcome. Direct any questions, comments or concerns to the email link below. We will attempt to address any appropriate request as thoroughly as we can.
