Hi kiddies!

Guess who's back and has updated the JMG?! I have no idea either...but let's move on.

I have finally entered the world of HDTV and Blu-ray. Seriously, Blu-ray, where have you been all of my life? Oh, I remember, you were too freakin' expensive. Well, anyway, I've added Blus to the movie list and, by gum, there are far too few for Jodhi's filmography. Movie people! I have money :::waves 3 dollars::: I want to buy Jodhi Blu-rays!

You'll be happy to know that the amazing The Last of the Mohicans: Director's Definitive Cut is being released on Blu in October! Now, I'm not sure if it will contain the uncut theatrical version (Oh, please!), and/or the chopped Director's Version (eh) and/or a new supah dupah fly Director's Version. This doesn't quite make it clear, but there seem to be some yummy extras:

Man, I can't wait.

I've been alright. Working a shedload, 6 days a week all summer. My brain is severely fried as are my joints, tendons, etc. This week, I'm on vacation, so I'm doing absolutely NOTHING! We rescued a dog around Christmas so she's been getting car rides every day of the week. Her name is Molly and she was from Commerce, Georgia. She's going to be 2 in September. Oh, and she's a yellow lab.

Right now, I'm on a bit of a Blu-ray kick because of the new TV. I held off for so long because every HDTV in all of the stores looked like garbage. Finally, a friend of mine dipped his toe in and he asked me to come with him to pick it up. We assembled it and then, about a week later, we got back together for Chinese food and testing the TV set. It looked mind-blowingly good. I waited a bit longer and then WorstBuy had an even better sale so I grabbed one. Happily, a 46-inch Samsung LCD will fit into the back of a Subaru Impreza hatchback :D So, I've swung back into movie-watching mode. I never really watch TV, I just record the odd program to watch later.

I've been watching Amazon UK closely because so many Blu-rays are all region *and* they are so much cheaper from the UK! I picked up the incredible Planet Earth on Blu for $25! Sir David Attenborough is amazing and the picture is absolutely stunning! This is why I can't wait to see The Last of the Mohicans and I'm hoping that this next Director's Cut won't be as bad as the last one. I believe that Strike Force is also region free, so I'm picking that up next.

Oh look at me blathering on...

How have you been, Katy?

Oh, you know me, steady on, steady on. :)

I did get an LCD tv, and I do like it, especially on HD channels. When I first got it, I thought there was something wrong with its depth of field. Everything seemed so flat and lacked all dimension. But now, I cannot bear to watch my old TV. My eyes quickly got used to whatever that is. I have not invested in Blu-ray though. I have a substantial investment in plain old DVDs, which I know the Blu-ray players will play. But somehow it does not yet seem worth it.

I also buy quite a few things from amazon.co.uk. Just DVDs even. They have had a lot of sales there lately too. Sadly, I was not on the ball enough to take advantage of them.

I guess my latest gadget interests are more computer related than TV and movie related. I've got my eye on a pretty little eyetv tv tuner. \:D/

SueWahoo, t's great to hear from you again.

Well, I received the Strike Back Blu and tried to play it this morning. No dice. Got a message saying that this resolution wasn't supported. My player, a Panasonic BD-85 with the newest updates, should automatically switch between resolutions like 720p, 1080i and 1080p, so I'm thinking that it's the dreaded 50Hz (UK) vs 60Hz (US). 50Hz is a slower field/frame rate so unless your player will do the conversion, you're SOL. You'll have more luck finding a player that converts the 50Hz to 60Hz than a TV that is able to deal with the difference.

Amazon US is selling this which made me think it was playable here, so be careful.
