Jodhi May in 2009's Jane Austen's Emma!

Postby Katy » Mon Apr 06, 2009 8:37 am

Well, well, one of my wishes has come true. Jodhi May has been cast in a new BBC production of Jane Austen's Emma. Read the press release here. Wonders never cease.

Here are some very nice set pictures of the filming of 'Emma'. JM's looking lovely, as usual. :)

This looks excellent. It's just the sort of brit TV literary adaptation I like.
Jodhi just looks so right in those kinds of costumes too.She fits the aesthetic while still showing her modern vibrancy.
And I really like the cast.It must be fun for them to work with each other again.

Great find on the pictures Leigh.Thanks.
She does look lovely, and with minimal makeup.I think she looks far better sans frosting.
The little boy in the tri corner hat is so cute too.

Sorry for being away for so long from the site.I kept meaning to get back here.I would come and read a few things, and think about it,and then be slug and not post.

This is great news. For sure JM is a VERY busy woman these days. It tells the world that she has the ultimate respect of her peers, directors and producers by saying that everyone wants her in their projects. Whether it's the cinema, stage, television or radio JM will be there. It does not get any better than this for JM (and us as well!) as ALL of the media wants her. A million props to you Jodhi, if you ever read this blog!

yes, I should have mentioned this already. Last week, the BBC released it's Fall press pack and Emma was there. Read here.

The showreel (found here)also had a very brief glimpse of her, but it's not viewable outside of the UK IP range.... but the Emma clip is made available without restrictions from the press pack link above. Find the image from Emma in the image carousel and click to start it playing. There are several glimpses of JM of note.

BBC Autumn 2009 Press Pack wrote:Emma

Emma is a fresh and witty serial adaptation of Jane Austen's comic masterpiece by award-winning writer Sandy Welch (Jane Eyre, North And South, Our Mutual Friend).

Romola Garai (Atonement, Vanity Fair), plays the "handsome, clever and rich" Emma Woodhouse, a young woman who dominates her small provincial world of Highbury. Misguidedly believing that she is a skilled matchmaker, Emma repeatedly attempts to pair up her friends and acquaintances, often with regrettable consequences.

The cast includes Jonny Lee Miller (Endgame, Melinda And Melinda), Michael Gambon (Harry Potter, Cranford), Tamsin Greig (The Diary Of Anne Frank, Green Wing), Robert Bathurst (Cold Feet) and Jodhi May (Einstein And Eddington, The Amazing Mrs Pritchard).

A Bafta-winning writer, Sandy Welch unfolds Austen's compassionate and humorous story of self-deceit and self-discovery in four hour-long episodes, providing a rich insight into one of the author's most complex characters.

The appearance of the BBC Press Pack, while really being sub-par, signifies an imminent broadcast in the UK... yay!

I found this today but too bad we can't see it here, including the video clips. It will be broadcast this Sunday on BBC One:

The Behind-the-Scenes clip was interesting; no face time with JM though....

I'm excited to see this. It looks to be entertaining.

Katy--you are a lucky woman to have seen the behind the scenes video clip. I have tried a few times but I keep getting the message "not available in your area." I guess this means that BBC One does NOT like us all out here on the "left coast!"

I found a YouTube video clip of Emma. We get to see JM in a couple of very brief scenes. JM certainly has serious cleavage

The first episode was pretty decent. JM had 2 lovely scenes with Johnny Lee Miller and Michael Gambon, respectively.

Anyone else see it?
