I'm...

Postby Katy » Wed Aug 05, 2009 10:13 am

I'm Katy, and one of the moderators here at this forum. I've been following JM's career since 1988 with her debut performance in A World Apart (AWA). My favorite JM films to date remain AWA, SMS, TTV and Blackbird on stage.

By day, I am a librarian, which I like to think helps me with this particular hobby. Other time is filled with an assortment of daily life kinds of things, of which I won't bore you.

As the site owner, I do have aspirations of making this a better Jodhi May resource. I hope that I can make that happen.

And you? what about you?

What a great idea, Katy!

Hi, I'm zippy... discovered JM at the same time Katy did, but I was decidedly older than Katy and we wouldn't "meet" for another 20 years or so after I'd created a Yahoo group dedicated to JM that this beautiful website eventually subsumed.

Some favorite JM performances are in Sister My Sister (SMS) and The House of Mirth (HOM) and The Other Boleyn Girl (TOBG).

Cheers, All!

Hi, I'm from Sydney, Australia. I am a university student and aspiring writer. I first saw JM in Last of the Mohicans and was hooked immediately. I love the fact that she is a reluctant star and I am thrilled to find a site where that aspect of her personality is appreciated.

I'm Maria, a very new fan of Jodhi. This January I finally watched 'Daniel Deronda; (as part of a Hugh Dancy's plan, I have a soft spot for him for some reason).
But I was struck by the character of Mirah, and now I find myself further on my Jodhi May study journey than on Dancy's...

Such a unique actress and an unactressy person - very interesting! Perhaps she isn't the universally versatile genius (like Meryl Streep), but she is frightfully deep and true!

I've watched:
'Tipping the Velvet' - very solid (and then I have a feeling I might have not appreciated the film enough from the first viewing), but in terms of Jodhi Mayness it was perfect! And I'm going to watch it again of course.

'The Other Boleyn Girl' - least favourite so far. Didn't enjoy this production at all (talking-into-the-camera was SO unnatural), and the character was so unpleasant, and Jodhi was totally unconvincing in this role in my opinion.
And I am happy that she was, actually!

'The last of the Mohicans" - only watched bits of it with Jodhi. I'm not a fan of such films and couldn't endure all the fights, plus Russian voice-over dubbing isn't an enjoyable thing (haven't found it with the original English audio track yet).

'Sister My Sister' - that's an eternal masterpiece.

'The Turn of the Screw' - also excellent, and I will certainly be watching it again, as I feel I didn't get all the subtleties.

'Flashbacks of a Fool' just watched it and it was good! With what I read about the film beforehand I didn't expect to like it at all, but I did! And I enjoyed Jodhi's performance very much as well, even though the character definitely is not pleasant.

About me: I am Russian, I live in Moscow and love British films and TV productions.
My other favourite actors and actresses are: Meryl Streep, Emma Thompson, Helen Mirren, Glenn Close, Alan Rickman, Colin Firth, Stephen Fry.... And not just because that are so brilliant at acting and so professional and do their WORK so well, but because of their public personalities and of what THEY say. These people define my world, and it's a shame so little is known about Jodhi. I almost wish she were a writer, instead of an actress.

I studied Biology at University, but it was years ago (I'm in fact, Jodhi's age), now I teach English, and I do photography as a hobby.

I'm glad to have found this quiet community (maybe too quiet at the moment), with such intelligent people and thoughtful discussions. I guess, I'll mostly be reading and catching up.

Hello everyone,

Nice to be a new member in your community.
I have been a regulat peruser of your posts and thought it was about time I joined just in case I wanted to reply to a thread or submit one.
I think the first JM film I ever saw was The Last of the Mohicans. Only years later, after Tipping the Velvet, did I actually realize it was her when she was younger.
I have ever since tried to keep up with her career which I find interesting and pretty unusual. THis is how I found out about this site, by googling her name.
I am looking forward to reading your threads and I'm very glad to be here amongst you good people ;)

Cheers,

Barnaby

Welcome, Barnaby.

I look forward to reading more from you as well.

And, if you are in the UK, JM will be on BBC Two in Blood and Oil next week. Be sure to tune in.

Hi Katy,

Thank you for the tip. Unfortuntely I won't be in the UK next week, but I'll try and find a way to watch Blood and Oil particularly since I don't know this film at all.
I recently aquired TTV on DVD and am very much looking forward to watching it again. I simply adored the novel and when I discovered the BBC adaptation I thought it was a wonderful piece of work.

Have a wonderful week!

Hi everyone,

I'm from Jodhi's half blood origins ^^ (France). I first saw her in "Tipping The Velvet" and she was astonishing with Rachael Stirling, that made me love this movie twice more :) Then, I tried to see what she had done the past years and I watched "Sister My Sister", "The Aristocrats" and lately, I watched "Sleep With Me" that I really loved by the way. :) I also wish to see her on stage like her last performance "Polar Bears" but it ended in May :S Anyway, I'm sure she's one of this actresses that I'll remember for long and I really hope I'll be able to follow her news and watch her new movies and stuff :D Besides, I'm glad that she's not that famous (I mean, she is but not like a Keira Knightley for instance) because people try less to stalk her even though she's been through the Papparazzi Era, when she was just a kid :S But, I've read she was trying to get out of fame eventually and I think it's the best she could do to focus on her private life.
Well, I'm pretty happy to see that someone did a website about her ^^ but it should be more faithful to her recent news (like her last play isn't specified :S).
Anyway, I've answered the "Introduce Yourself" Topic so ... :)

Thx a lot for taking the time to make this website.
Bye everyone :)

PS: sorry for mistakes if they're any :S I love english but nobody's perfect :)
